Mark Boomgaarden has extensive experience in the lighting industry, with a strong emphasis on engineering and product development. Mark has worked for multiple companies, starting in 1998 at Holophane as a Mechanical Engineer. During their time there, they designed lighting systems and conducted testing for certification. In 2000, they transitioned to Schlumberger as a Field Engineer, where they managed a cross-functional team and operated data acquisition systems. In 2003, they joined Acuity Brands as a Mechanical Design Engineer, where they led projects and implemented digital document systems. In 2008, they became the Vice President of Engineering at Evolution Energy & Light, overseeing product design, regulatory compliance, and implementing material requirements planning systems. From 2009 to 2016, Mark worked at Lighting Science Group Corporation, first as a Systems Architect and Mechanical Engineering Manager, leading the development of LED retrofit lamp families and fixtures, and later as the Director of Product Development and Innovation, managing a diverse team and a large LED product portfolio. Since 2016, Mark has been working at Cree Lighting as a Senior Engineering Manager and Senior System Architect in the Advanced R&D department, responsible for managing a significant portfolio of outdoor canopy lighting products and leading a cross-disciplinary team.
