Roger Chen

AVP, Performance Excellence at Health Care District of Palm Beach County

Roger Chen is the Associate Vice President of Performance Excellence for the Health Care District of Palm Beach County where he leads continuous process improvement and change management for the organization’s finance and supply chains to enhance overall quality and efficiency across the safety net health care system. Chen has over 25 years of corporate and healthcare Six Sigma and Lean leadership experience developing organization systems and high-performing teams.

Previously, Chen presided over his own Lean training consultancy firm in Stuart, Florida. Prior to that, he served as the Executive Director of Transformation at a private cardiology group in Florida and held the same title at a statewide health system in the Midwest. Before that, Chen served as Vice President of Organization Transformation at Lee Memorial Health Systems and previously was the Corporate Director of Performance Excellence at Martin Memorial Health Systems, where he led the organization through a system-wide Lean transformation to streamline processes, reduce costs and improve patient experience.

Chen began his career as a field engineer for GE Healthcare and he developed the 5S System for Biomedical Departments in hospitals to improve workflow, optimize space and increase safety.

Chen is a Lean transformation and change management coach with a history of quality improvement, operations management and expertise in leadership development. As a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and Master Black Belt with General Electric, Roger has a unique understanding of the challenges to transition from an existing quality framework to a Lean enterprise. He has lead ISO 9001:2000 Certification, Joint Commission compliance, technology teams, and developed materials to teach large organizations nationally and internationally. He presents at health care institutions and conferences nationally on the ways to integrate Lean Thinking and Leadership Development to improve the effectiveness of healthcare operations.

Chen graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics from DeVry Institute of Technology and earned his International Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL. Chen is board certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds Lean Bronze Certification from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
