Kaiulani Shinsato has a diverse work background with experience in various roles and industries. Kaiulani began their career as a Litigation Associate at Cades Schutte LLP in 1999 and worked there until 2004. From 2004 to 2005, they served as a Litigation Associate at Marr Jones and Wang. In 2006, they joined the State of Hawaii Public Utilities Commission as a Commission Counsel and worked there until 2013. Since then, they have been employed at Hawaiian Electric, where they have held multiple roles including Energy Contract Manager from 2013 to 2015, Manager of Distributed Energy Resources Programs from 2015 to 2016, Director of Strategic Dockets from 2016 to 2017, Director of Distributed Energy Resources Strategy & Policy from 2017 to 2018, and currently serves as the Director of Customer Energy Resources Programs.
Kaiulani Shinsato completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in International Studies, Japan from the University of Washington. Kaiulani then pursued a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa - William S. Richardson School of Law. Additionally, they also studied Japanese Studies at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan.
