The Council at Háskóli Íslands serves as the university's primary governance body, responsible for setting strategic directions, approving significant academic and administrative policies, and ensuring the institution's mission aligns with societal needs. Comprised of both council and deputy council members, including the Director of the Rector's Office and Council Secretary, the team collaborates to uphold the university’s standards of excellence and foster an environment conducive to research and higher education.
