Mark Shirley

Chief Innovation Officer at Habit Health

Mark Shirley has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Mark is currently working at Habit Health as the Chief Innovation Officer since August 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Executive - Clinical Innovation at Habit Health from January 2020 to September 2022. Mark also worked as a Director at Presbyterian Support Otago starting from June 2021. In November 2021, Mark joined the Ministry of Health New Zealand as a member of the HIRA - Clinical reference group. In the past, they were involved in co-developing an app called Physiolog at LogItApps since July 2013. Mark also served as a member of the Whanau, Consumer & Clinician Digital Council at Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand from January 2023 to July 2023. Additionally, they have experience in the role of Intern Director at City Forrests from January 2020 to June 2021. Mark has extensive experience in the healthcare industry, having worked as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director/Physiotherapist at Southern Rehab. Mark also worked as a Professional Practice Fellow at the University of Otago and as a Lecturer at Otago Polytechnic. Earlier in their career, Mark worked as a Locum Physiotherapist.

Mark Shirley obtained a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree from the University of Otago between 1996 and 2000. Mark then pursued further education and completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Health Science in Rehabilitation at the Auckland University of Technology from 2008 to 2009. Mark continued their studies and earned a Masters of Health Science degree with a focus on Rehabilitation from the Auckland University of Technology between 2009 and 2011. Additionally, Mark obtained several certifications, including Chartered Membership from the Institute of Directors in New Zealand in 2021, and completed the Companies Directors Course and the Governance Development Programme from the same institution in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
