James Boyce

Founder + CEO at Grumpy Sailor Creative

James Boyce has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. James founded Grumpy Sailor Creative in 2012, where they currently hold the positions of Founder, CEO, and Creative Director. Grumpy Sailor specializes in innovative design, technology, narrative, and art, working with clients such as Google's Creative Lab.

In 2018, Boyce also founded Rover, a company that offers a kit of products to enhance museum experiences. The products include headphones that react to the physical world, creating a unique visitor experience.

Prior to their entrepreneurial ventures, Boyce worked at Dog Money World as a Producer and Partner from 2010 to 2014. James also gained experience in creative copywriting at Shift Communications Pty Ltd from 2010 to 2012, where they delivered concepts for various clients.

Additionally, Boyce worked as a Copywriter at Marmalade Communications in 2008, and as an Assistant Director at Film Depot Pty Ltd in 2007. James started their career at Weta Digital in 2005, where they served as a Production Runner, gaining exposure to various aspects of the filmmaking process on notable films.

James Boyce attended the University of Sydney from 2000 to 2004, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a major in Politics and International Relations and Performance Studies. In 2008, they completed a short course on Creative Idea Generation at AWARD School. In 2009, they took a short course on Documentary at AFTRS and also graduated from AWARD Copy School, specializing in copywriting. In 2010, they pursued an Advanced Diploma in Screen and Media, focusing on Transmedia and Multi-platform screen producing at Metroscreen.
