John Collins is a proven senior executive with a strong track record of driving growth, improving operating efficiency, developing talent and effective teams resulting in enhanced shareholder returns. He is a recognized expert in M&A, finance, risk management, strategy, energy and derivatives markets and transaction structuring.
Most recently, Collins served as President and CEO of Cube Hydro Partners, an owner and operator of hydroelectric facilities in the U.S. He grew the company through five acquisitions; from the initial development of a 6 MW hydroelectric facility in western Pennsylvania to the ownership and operations of 19 plants totaling 385 MWs located in five states generating 1.5 million MWhs per year. Under his leadership, Cube Hydro successfully reduced operating costs by 30% while significantly improving overall operating performance. Collins led the negotiations and closing of the sale of the company to a U.S.-based subsidiary of Ontario Power Generation for $1.1 billion, which closed in October 2019.
Previously, Collins spent 22 years with Constellation Energy Group, a Fortune 125 diversified energy company, serving as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Risk Officer and Senior Vice President of Integration. He led the sale of 49% of Constellation’s nuclear generation business to EDF for $4.5 billion, and was the architect of Baltimore Gas & Electric Company’s 72% rate increase settlement with the Maryland legislature. Prior to joining the holding company, Collins was a founding member and CFO of Constellation Energy’s merchant energy business, which grew to become the largest competitive energy supplier in the U.S., and held several financial leadership positions in Baltimore Gas & Electric Company.
Collins also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Constellation Energy Partners, a publicly traded natural gas exploration and production company. He is a founding member and former Chairman of the Committee of Chief Risk Officers (CCRO), which was formed following the collapse of Enron to establish and promote best practices in risk management.
Collins holds a B.S. in Business Administration from University of Delaware (where he was inducted into the university’s “Wall of Fame”) and an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
