Steve began his grocery retailing career in Durant, OK at a “big box” operation called Dollar Saver Food Warehouse in 1990. He instantly caught the “retailing bug” and worked for a few conventional grocery stores until landing a store management position for Trader Joe's in 97’ where he learned to love the actual product he was working with. In 1999, he moved to Seattle just before the first Whole Foods Market opened in the NW. He was able to secure the highly coveted Beer Buyer position, which took his passion for product and merchandising to a whole new level. He was soon utilized by the company to open new stores, assist with Beer/Wine dept resets, and train staff in several regions before being offered a position at the new flagship store in Austin, TX. As one of the only Beer and Wine Team Leaders for WFM, he was recruited to assist in nearly every store remodel and opening in the Rocky Mountain and Southwest regions from 2005 to 2008. He moved to Denver, CO in 2008 to lead a struggling grocery team at the region’s largest store at the time. Once that team was back in black, he moved back to the Pacific NW as an assistant manager for the Hollywood WFM here in Portland. He then transferred to the Laurelhurst store to assist in a full store remodel. Now the assistant operations manager at Green Zebra, he is having the best time of his career building something from the ground up.
