Shakil Barkat currently serves as Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Google since July 2019, and holds the position of Corporate Vice President of Wearables and Product Development at Motorola since July 2013. Previously, Shakil served as Senior Director for MAC Embedded Platforms at Apple from April 2012 to June 2013, and held various roles at Motorola Mobility from September 1994 to June 2012, including Senior Director of the MotoACTV Fitness Category, known for creating the industry's first converged GPS Fitness Tracking Device with a Music Player, and Senior Director of Mobile Devices, where technical direction for cellular chipsets and software was established. Earlier experience includes working as an Electrical Engineer at Dauphin Technology from 1992 to 1994. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Networks from National Technological University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Philosophy from the University of Illinois Chicago.
