Joao Paulo Vergueiro has extensive work experience in the philanthropic sector. Joao Paulo began their career in 2006 as a Project Manager for the Prefeitura Municipal de Sao Paulo, where they were responsible for the areas of finances-administration, knowledge management and information technology. In 2007, they became a Project Manager for Oficina Municipal, and in 2008 they became a Professor at Universidade Ibirapuera. In 2009, they worked as a Programme Funding Officer for Christian Aid. From 2012 to 2015, they worked at FECAP as an Alumni and Endowments Manager and Professor. Joao Paulo then became the CEO of ABCR in 2015. In 2017, they became a Consultant for the Belfer Centre for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y. From 2013 to 2019, they were a Manager at IDIS - Instituto para o Desenvolvimento do Investimento Social. Since 2023, they have been the Latin American + Caribbean Hub Director for GivingTuesday, where they are leading the growth of GivingTuesday throughout the LAC region, supporting leadership, collaboration, and innovation throughout the GivingTuesday movement's network. Joao Paulo is also helping to expand GivingTuesday's collaborative data work to better inform and inspire the social sector in Latin America, the Caribbean, and around the world.
Joao Paulo Vergueiro has a diverse educational background. Joao Paulo obtained a Bachelor's degree in Law from USP - Universidade de São Paulo between 1998 and 2006. Joao Paulo also obtained a Bachelor's degree in Public Management from FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas between 1998 and 2001. Joao Paulo then obtained a Master's degree in Public Management from FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas between 2011 and 2013. Joao Paulo is currently pursuing a PhD in Philanthropy from FGV - Fundação Getulio Vargas, which they began in 2022.
