Niels Poulsen is a senior researcher emeritus at GEUS, with extensive experience in coupled underground coal gasification and CO2 capture and storage, as well as expertise in stratigraphy and palynology. Niels worked at GEUS from May 1984 to the present, contributing to various projects in geology and project management. Niels served as a member of the Executive Committee and Treasurer for CO2GeoNet from March 2011 to March 2021 and held the position of past-president at ENeRG from January 2014 to January 2020, where Niels focused on the preparation and marketing of a CO2 Storage Atlas for Europe. Niels completed a Ph.D. in geology with a focus on Jurassic stratigraphy and palynology at the Geological Institute, University of Copenhagen, between 1988 and 1991, and graduated from Gentofte Statsskole in 1970.
