Rachel Sommer is currently the Office Manager at Gateways. Rachel has previously worked as a Science Laboratory Technician at Gateway Technical College from July 2019 to October 2020. Prior to that, they were a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Hawaii at Manoa from August 2016 to December 2018, where they instructed two sections of an introductory biology laboratory course for five semesters and edited and graded assignments for a writing intensive course. Sommer has also worked as a Barista at Bridgeport Coffee Company from October 2014 to February 2015, and as a Collections Assistant at The Field Museum from October 2014 to July 2016. In addition, Sommer has been an Education Volunteer at The Harold L. Lyon Arboretum from September 2018 to November 2018, and a Research Assistant at Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, Malacology Collection from January 2017 to December 2018. Finally, Sommer was a Backcountry Steward at the New York Department of Environmental Conservation from May 2014 to August 2014.
Rachel Sommer has a Master's degree in Zoology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Rachel also has a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Rachel is certified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to teach Short Term Substitute License for 3 years.
