Kala Fleming has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Kala is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Frontline Gig, where they focus on providing apprenticeship programs to address workforce needs and promote green jobs. Additionally, they are an Entrepreneur in Residence at Jobs for the Future (JFF), working on initiatives to increase the number of individuals with quality jobs through environmental justice and green jobs levers. Kala is also a Board Member at the Elizabeth River Project, supporting the organization's strategy related to environmental justice and workforce development. Previously, they founded Diaspora AI and worked as an Executive Advisor for the City of San José, focusing on digital inclusion and broadband strategy. Kala also has experience at IBM, where they worked as a Corporate Strategy Innovation Manager and Water, Agriculture & Healthcare Manager. Before that, they were a Principal at The FHW Group, a Sustainability Manager at Campbell Soup Company, and an Environmental Engineer at American Water.
Kala Fleming holds a BS in Chemistry with a Physics concentration from the University of the Virgin Islands. Kala also has a PhD in Environmental Engineering, with a minor in Computer Science, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
