Jay Duffner

Associate Director of Discovery Biology at Frontier Medicines

Jay Duffner has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biopharmaceuticals and drug discovery. Jay is currently serving as the Associate Director of Discovery Biology at Frontier Medicines since March 2023. Prior to this role, they worked at Faze Medicines as the Associate Director of Biophysics from January 2022 to November 2022. In this position, they managed CROs and research plans for biomolecular interactions and developed drug discovery plans for new targets in oncology. From October 2020 to December 2021, Jay worked as the Principal Scientist at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, focusing on translational science in the immunology therapeutic area for autoantibody-driven diseases. Here, they identified biomarkers and developed assays to understand aspects of disease and treatment.

Before joining Janssen, Jay held multiple roles at Momenta Pharmaceuticals. Jay served as the Principal Scientist from December 2018 to October 2020 and as the Senior Scientist from November 2006 to October 2020. Jay conducted research and played a crucial role in the development of scientific advancements in the company.

Jay began their career at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard as a Research Associate II from December 2004 to November 2006. Jay was responsible for designing and conducting biochemical assays to confirm small molecule binding to protein targets.

Earlier in their career, Jay worked at Entegris as an Applications Engineer II from March 2001 to April 2004, where they supported various business areas and provided technical data on the efficacy of filtration and ozone contacting products. Jay began their professional journey as an intern at Millennium Pharmaceuticals from June 1999 to March 2001, where they developed test methods and assisted in building and maintaining robotic systems for high throughput screening.

In 2000, Jay also interned at Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, where they worked with flexural plate wave (FPW) biological and chemical sensors, testing the efficacy of polymer coating and protein binding to the sensor's gold plated surface.

Overall, Jay Duffner has a strong background in drug discovery, biophysics, and translational science, along with extensive experience in managing research plans, developing assays, and identifying biomarkers in the field of biopharmaceuticals.

Jay Duffner completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University from 1997 to 2001. Jay then pursued higher education at Northeastern University, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from 2005 to 2008. Following that, they attended Boston University and earned a Certificate in Management in 2009.
