Stephan Okhuijsen has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Stephan started their career in 1992 with Itude, where they worked as a Project Manager and Consultant. In 2005, they joined Sargasso.nl as a Redacteur, where they focused on data journalism and opinion writing. Stephan also served as the Voorzitter and Hoofdredacteur for the organization.
In 2017, Okhuijsen became a Manager at Eyefreight, leading the Research and Development group. Stephan was responsible for managing a team of local and off-site staff, along with improving processes and quality. Stephan later joined RTL as a Columnist, where they wrote fact-check columns based on data and graphs.
In 2018, Okhuijsen worked as a Project Manager at the University of Amsterdam, where they focused on implementing augmented reality/virtual reality technology for education and research purposes. Stephan also advised on translating prototypes into potential services within the university.
From 2019 to 2023, Okhuijsen worked at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) in various roles, including IT Project Manager and Programmamanager. Stephan was involved in projects related to research data management and support, focusing on aspects such as privacy, risk management, and big data.
In 2014, Okhuijsen founded Datagraver, an organization aimed at promoting and utilizing open data for societal benefit and debate. Starting from 2022, they also worked as a Project Manager at FreshBed.
Finally, in 2022, Okhuijsen joined CargoProbe as a Consultant in data analytics, assisting in setting up data analytics processes and machine learning, specifically focusing on anomaly detection and predictions. Throughout their career, they have also been actively engaged as a professional speaker, participating in conferences, workshops, and debates on topics such as open data, data visualization, and the Internet of Things.
Stephan Okhuijsen began their education in 1978 at St. Bonifatius College in Utrecht, where they pursued VWO. Following this, from 1984 to 1986, they attended Utrecht University, majoring in Informatic. Afterward, in 1991 to 1992, they returned to Utrecht University to study Philosophy. In terms of additional certifications, they obtained the Prince2 Foundation certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice in March 2004 and the Prince2 Practitioner certification from the same institution in April 2004.
