Dr. Yael Shechter is the former head of the prestigious Magen David Adom Blood Services, the Israeli equivalent of the American Red Cross. She completed a PhD in Biochemistry at Iowa State University. She went on to become a faculty member at the Rapport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion in Israel, in the Biochemistry department. She also taught at the Georgetown University Biochemistry department, and then moved back to Israel, to become the director of the blood bank at Haifa’s Ramban Health Care Campus, one of the country’s largest hospitals. Her long-term directorship included a unit for therapeutic Plasmapheresis and stem cell collection and freezing, and a laboratory for platelet Immunology. After a 26-year career at Rambam, Dr. Shechter become the head of Magen David Adom Blood Services.
