Benjamin D. Hartung has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Benjamin D. began their career in the United States Marine Corps, where they worked as a Computer & Communications Electronics Technician from 1997 to 1999, and later as a Network Helpdesk Analyst from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, they transitioned to the State University of New York at Fredonia, where they held various roles. These include Systems Administrator from 2006 to 2014, Interim Co-Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Executive Director of Enterprise Services from 2014 to 2015, Residential Technology and Security Systems Manager from 2015 to 2019, and Information Security Officer (ISO) from 2016 to 2019. Recently, they served as the Interim Chief Information Officer (CIO) from September 2020 to February 2023. Currently, Benjamin holds the role of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Benjamin D. Hartung obtained their Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Campbell University from 1998 to 2000. Benjamin D. then pursued a Bachelors of Science in Electronic Systems Technologies with a specialization in Management from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale between 2000 and 2002. Subsequently, they obtained a Masters of Business Administration in Technology Management from SUNY Polytechnic Institute, where they studied from 2002 to 2006. In terms of additional certifications, Benjamin obtained the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)² in July 2010, the Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute in January 2012, and the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) from ISACA in July 2020.
