La Verne Reid

La Verne Reid is the Director at Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC. La has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, with a focus on finance and operations.

From March 2017 to March 2019, La Verne was the Director Of Finance And Operations at Urban Ministries of Wake County. During their time there, they improved accounting procedures to align financials with GAAP accrual reporting standards, simplified and standardized Finance Committee and Executive Board financial reports to enable informed decision making, and expanded employee benefits while reducing overall costs of services.

In their role as Director at Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, La Verne has continued their work to improve financial controls and processes within the organization. La has implemented new time keeping and paycheck system for staff to simplify and automate manual process, developed annual budgets and reviewed monthly variances with Finance Committee and Program Directors to ensure proper management of funds, reconciled and prepared monthly grant reports for state, county, and city agencies, and improved financial controls by selecting a new audit firm to provide a fresh view of internal controls.

La Verne has also been instrumental in securing loans, financing and support grant application for a new women’s center facility, and in identifying and gaining approval for finance policy improvements to ensure stronger fiscal management. In addition to their finance-related responsibilities, La Verne provides leadership and career development for finance and volunteer services staff.

La Verne Reid earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting from Penn State University. La is also certified by the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
