Roel Mingels

Head of R&D at FLOWBIO

Roel Mingels has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biosensors and sensor technologies. Roel currently holds the position of Head of R&D at FLOWBIO since September 2022, where they also served as a Lead Biosensor Engineer from September 2021. Prior to that, Roel worked at the University of Southampton from 2015 to 2021, starting as a PhD candidate in the Centre for Hybrid Biodevices Nano group and later becoming a Graduate Research Assistant, contributing to various projects in areas such as in vivo sensing, antimicrobial resistance, and environmental monitoring. At VivoPlex, from February 2018 to April 2020, they played a key role in commercializing sensor technologies and was responsible for training technical staff, patent writing, and handling documentation. Roel's earlier experience includes a dissertation role at the Scottish Microelectronics Centre in 2013, where they developed microfluidic valves, and a bachelor thesis at Hasselt University in 2012, focusing on MIP-based bio-mimetic sensors and impedance spectroscopy analysis. Roel also had an internship at Anatech in 2010, where they designed and implemented a USB-host module.

Roel Mingels earned their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Nano Research Group, Electronics and Computer Science from the University of Southampton between 2015 and 2018. Prior to that, they completed their MSc in Bioelectronics at The University of Edinburgh from 2012 to 2013. Roel obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Electrical Engineering from De Haagse Hogeschool / vestiging Delft from 2008 to 2012. Before their university studies, Roel attended Sint-Maartens College from 2001 to 2007, where they completed their secondary education, specializing in Atheneum with a focus on Technology & Nature and Health & Nature. Additionally, Roel has a certification in Power Minor from TenneT, Arnhem, the Netherlands, but the specific date of completion is unavailable.
