Alan Walker has a diverse work experience spanning across various industries and positions. Alan is currently a researcher at the Air Transportation Lab at Georgia Tech, starting in 2023. Prior to this, they were the Chief Data Scientist at Floqsta, Inc. from 2021.
Before their role at Floqsta, Inc., Alan worked as a Data Scientist, Architect, and Consultant in the DFW Area since 2013. In this role, they worked on multiple projects and with various clients, focusing on areas such as AI and NLP for social media analytics, revenue management and dynamic pricing for airlines, and big data analytics using Hadoop and Spark.
From 2008 to 2018, Alan served as a member of the Industry Advisory Board for Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington. This was a volunteer position where they provided feedback on the curriculum, participated in student projects and research labs, and facilitated internship and employment opportunities for students.
Prior to this, Alan worked at Sabre Holdings from 1995 to 2013. Alan held various roles including Vice President of Operations Research Consulting, Executive Principal of Research, and VP of Architecture. In these roles, Alan managed projects with leading airlines, utilizing optimization, statistical analysis, and large-scale data processing tools like Hadoop and SAS. Alan also led the definition of new service models and evaluated big data solutions. Additionally, they worked on architecture design and led the research work for travel distribution.
Before joining Sabre Holdings, Alan worked as a Principal at American Airlines Decision Technologies from 1989 to 1997. Here, they were involved in the architecture of the revenue management system.
At the beginning of their career, Alan worked as a Contract Programmer at the Electricity Commission of NSW in 1985 and as a Programmer at BHP Billiton from 1981 to 1984. In these roles, they focused on programming for real-time process control and statistical/reporting systems.

Alan Walker started their education at Hurlstone Agricultural High School, where they studied from 1976 to 1981. Following that, they attended the University of Wollongong from 1981 to 1984, majoring in Mathematics. In 2001, they pursued a Master of Science in Computer Science from The University of Texas at Arlington, completing it in 2004. From 2007 to 2009, Alan worked towards a PhD in Computer Science and Operations Research at Southern Methodist University, although they did not complete a dissertation. Additionally, in 2014, they obtained a certification as a Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop from Cloudera.
