Joseph Teo started their work experience in 2013 as a Signal Operator under the Information Systems Platoon in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). Joseph held the rank of Corporal and was responsible for providing communication on multiple platforms and local networking within the battlefield. Joseph also supported the SAF's transformation efforts by developing network-centric warfare capabilities. During their time in the SAF, they received proficiency badges such as IPPT Gold and Marksmanship, as well as the Best Soldier Award in July 2015. Joseph participated in various exercises and events, including the Army Half Marathon and Brigade Advance Competency Training. In 2021, they joined FisherBroyles, LLP as part of the Global Corporate & Tech team.

Joseph Teo has obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Exeter. Joseph also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from BPP Law School. Additionally, they have achieved several certifications including an Advanced Certificate in Network Operations Management, Monitoring & Maintenance from the National Infocomm Competency Framework (NICF), a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching certification from Cisco, and a certification in Law, Technology, Innovation & Design from BPP Law School.
