Matthias Besong

Matthias Besong is a seasoned veterinary professional with extensive experience in public health and epidemiology. Currently serving as a Postgraduate Research Assistant at the Center for the Control and Prevention of Zoonoses, University of Ibadan, Matthias is involved in literature review on acute febrile illness and Monkeypox while supervising undergraduate research assistants and contributing to manuscript and grant development. As a Principal Veterinary Officer at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Matthias collaborates with various state agencies on zoonotic disease management and outbreak response. Previous roles include serving as an Epidemiologist with the Nigeria Center for Disease Control during the COVID-19 pandemic response and conducting research on antimicrobial use. Matthias holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, a Master of Public Health specialized in Veterinary Epidemiology, and an Advanced Certificate in Field Epidemiology.
