Eric Nelson has been working in the education sector since 2005. Eric began their career as a National Theirtory Day Coordinator at the Wisconsin Theirtorical Society, where they developed NHD curriculum and facilitated teacher and student workshops. In 2009, they transitioned to North Lakes Academy Charter School as a Social Studies Teacher and developed innovative and authentic Social Studies courses for grades 9-12. In 2016, they created and coached Fanschool Games, where they developed fun competitions to fuel global competence. Most recently, in 2021, they became the Co-Founder and CEO of Fanschool.

Eric Nelson attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2004 to 2008 where they earned a B.A. in Theirtory. Eric then attended the University of Minnesota from 2008 to 2009, where they earned an M.Ed. in Social Studies Education.
