Elton Gumbel

Elton Gumbel is a former television sports anchor who arrived at UpTogether in June of 2021 after working in a number of capacities for Greatness Incorporated. As the Vice President of Content & Corporate Communications for 11-time NY Times best-selling author and leadership speaker Don Yaeger, he gained a front-row seat to many thought-provoking, team building and leadership discussions with some of the most brilliant business minds and sports champions of today’s generation.

Gumbel served as a correspondent reporter with interviews ranging from Alabama 7-time NCAA Champion football coach Nick Saban, to innovative Mayor Aja Brown from the City of Compton, to former Cinnabon, Moes & Focus Brand Foods President Kat Cole. He prides himself on versatility and served Greatness Inc. as a writer, producer, multimedia director, webinar host, video editor, graphic designer, public relations media correspondent, and more.

His journey also included frequently lending his media expertise, communications, and presentation skills to a list of clients that include the NBA Draft, WNBA, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Phillies, Ohio State University, Firehouse Subs, and even the cast and crew of the Jurassic World Live Tour. His consulting travels have even taken him to Germany in support of Wounded Warrior Project, a non-profit organization that empowers Post-9/11 veterans.

Gumbel’s TV career took flight in 2005 when he became the 1st Black sports anchor in Tallahassee, Florida. He anchored the 5 pm sportscasts for WCTV (CBS) in Tallahassee and by 2008 had assumed the role of primary Sports Director, anchoring six shows per day for the CBS & Fox affiliates. Prior to WCTV, Gumbel worked in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, as a freelance videographer/ reporter for Time Warner Cable’s Metro Sports channel.

His broadcast background also includes serving as the host of a weekly TV show with Florida A&M University’s head football coach. He also served as host for an online video segment, “The TCC Report” which highlighted various projects and accomplishments at Tallahassee Community College.

Gumbel proudly graduated from Florida A&M University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism, and is on the Board of Visitors for the Florida A&M University School of Journalism and Graphic Communications.
