Boris Spokoyny is a Managing Scientist at Exponent since May 2019, specializing in laser and LED safety in consumer electronics, medical devices, and automotive markets, as well as product reliability and functional safety of mission-critical components. Prior experience includes roles as Senior Scientist and Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from April 2017 to May 2019, where research focused on the design and characterization of nano-materials for shortwave infrared detectors and the fundamental physics of two-dimensional materials for quantum communication. Boris also served as a Graduate Student at Northwestern University from September 2011 to April 2017, developing novel super-continuum ultrafast laser spectroscopies, and as a Research Assistant at The University of Chicago from September 2009 to September 2011, characterizing nano-scale thermoelectric materials. Educational achievements include a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Northwestern University and a BA in Physics from the University of Chicago.
