Bill Schmalzl began their work experience as an intern at Union Springs, LLC in July 2012. Bill later became the Assistant to the Director of Product Development and Regulatory Affairs in August 2013 until August 2014. Bill then joined Epic in June 2015 as a Technical Coordinator and Professional Billing Technical Services. Bill worked at Epic until November 2021. In November 2021, they started working as a Customer Systems Analyst at Madison Gas and Electric, where they remained until November 2022. Currently, in December 2022, Bill is working as an Epic Consultant at Evergreen Healthcare Partners.

Bill Schmalzl earned their Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Northern Kentucky University, where they studied from 2012 to 2015. Prior to that, they attended Indiana University Bloomington from 2010 to 2011, though no specific degree was mentioned. In addition to their education, Bill obtained various certifications, including Charge Router, Data Courier, Professional Billing, and Reporting Workbench from Epic in August 2015. Bill also obtained the Financial Mathematics Actuarial Exam certification from the Society of Actuaries in April 2015.
