Joshua Vredevoogd began their work experience as a Research Assistant at Valparaiso University in 2004, where they conducted summer undergraduate research in experimental particle physics. Joshua then joined the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory in 2007 as a Research Assistant, focusing on graduate research in hydrodynamic simulations for heavy ion collisions. During this time, they developed a light-weight, multi-threaded, single machine 3D viscous hydrodynamic code and served as an alpha model for statistical and visualization tools for the MADAI collaboration.

In 2013, Vredevoogd transitioned to Eventbrite, starting as a Data Scientist. In this role, they led a modeling effort to implement synchronous payments fraud decisioning and developed a Natural Language Processing model to categorize event inventory, which improved understanding of loss-driving creators. Joshua then moved on to become a Senior Data Scientist, where they championed the addition of asynchronous task evaluation for data-intensive policy development and built a metrics framework for risk function to track operational effort and loss to the business.

Vredevoogd was later promoted to Data Science Manager at Eventbrite in 2017, where they continued to lead and manage data science projects. Joshua'sresponsibilities included managing a lean team responsible for multiple machine learning systems and rulesets, quantifying the impact of Covid-19 on the business, and extending fraud prevention programs to high-risk markets.

Joshua Vredevoogd completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Physics and Mathematics at Valparaiso University from 2003 to 2007. Joshua then pursued further education at Michigan State University, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physics from 2007 to 2013.
