Joseph Roybal

Undersheriff Joseph Roybal began his career in October 1995. His assignments within the Detention Bureau have included Floor Security Deputy, Special Response Team member (serving seven years), Court Services Deputy at the El Paso County Courthouse, and Shift Sergeant at the Criminal Justice Center.

He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in April 2010 and had the privilege to serve in various capacities within the Office. As a Sergeant, he served as Floor Security Supervisor, Internal Affairs Investigator, Assistant Public Information Officer, along with Concealed Handgun Program Supervisor.

He was promoted to Lieutenant in March of 2014, and returned to familiar assignments in Internal Affairs, the El Paso County Courthouse and served as the Special Response Team Leader. As Lieutenant, he was given the opportunity to expand his experience and served the Community as a member of Metro Vice, Narcotics, and Intelligence. There, he was responsible for a Street Impact Team, a Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Team, and Marijuana Regulation.

He was promoted to the rank of Commander in May 2017, and is currently assigned to the Detention Operations Division where he is responsible for Intake & Release, Court Services, Inmate Classification and Programs, The Special Response Team, and Jail Contracts.

Undersheriff Roybal takes pride in his service to the Community. He has served on various boards and committees within the Pikes Peak Region. These include, El Cinco De Mayo Inc, Community Corrections Board, Healthy Engaged and Living Sober (H.E.A.L.S.) Court member, and School District 49 Woodmen Hills Elementary School Safety Committee. He has volunteered as a youth football coach for many years and mentored young people identified as needing assistance and intervention.
