Sean Mackin has a strong background in IT and has held various leadership roles throughout their career. Sean began their career as a Technical Consultant in CCC Technology in 1999. Sean then worked as a Computing Officer at the University of Ulster from 2003 to 2005. From 2005 to 2007, they served as a Systems Analyst at SONI Ltd, where they supported and maintained IT services for the electricity grid in Northern Ireland.
In 2007, they joined SEMO (Single Electricity Market Operator) as an IT Manager, managing IT systems for the wholesale All Island Electricity Market. Sean also recruited and managed a team across two locations and two companies.
In 2013, they became the Application Support & Projects Manager at EirGrid Group, responsible for the operation and development of the high voltage electricity grid in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. Sean was later appointed as the Head of Corporate Applications, leading the support, maintenance, and development of the All-Island Electricity Market and Corporate Applications.
From 2020 to 2023, they served as the Head of IT Applications at EirGrid Group, overseeing the applications development and support services for the Power System, the All-island Market, and the Corporate applications.
Currently, Sean Mackin is the Head of IT Portfolio & Business Engagement at EirGrid Group, where they are responsible for leading the delivery of project and service portfolios and acting as the primary interface for business engagement. Sean manages the pipeline and portfolio of IT projects to respond to current and future business demands.
Sean Mackin's education history is as follows:
From 2004 to 2006, Sean attended Ulster University and obtained a Postgrad Diploma in Informatics, specializing in Information Technology.
In 1998 and 1999, they also attended Ulster University and completed an MSc in Computers and Information Systems, focusing on Information Technology.
Between 1993 and 1995, Sean studied at the University of Glamorgan and earned a BA (Hons) in Business Studies, with a specific focus on Business Studies.
From 1990 to 1992, they pursued a degree in Accountancy and Finance at Liverpool John Moores University, specializing in Accounting and Finance.
In addition to their formal education, Sean has obtained several certifications. In June 2019, they completed the Program for Management Development for TSO's at IESE Business School. In November 2018, they obtained a certification in High Impact Leadership from the Irish Management Institute, as well as completing a Leadership Masterclass at EirGrid. Sean is also PMP Certified, holding a certification from the Project Management Professional institution. Furthermore, they have a certification in Project Management Foundation & Practitioner from Prince 2 Project Management.
