Daniel Barreto is a lecturer in geotechnical engineering at Edinburgh Napier University, where responsibilities include teaching and supervising research for undergraduate and postgraduate students since March 2009. Currently, Daniel serves as the COST Action Chair for the Open Network on DEM Simulations (ON-DEM) and as a Fellow for the Royal Academy of Engineering - Leverhulme Trust for the 2023-2024 period. Prior experience includes working as a graduate geotechnical engineer at PSI S.A., focusing on costing, tender preparation, geotechnical design, and field supervision of ground investigations. Daniel's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Soil Mechanics and an M.Sc. in Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology from Imperial College London, along with a BEng in Civil Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, and additional certifications in teaching and learning in higher education and blended/online education from Edinburgh Napier University.
