Dewald Pretorius started their work experience in 2007 at Mecalc Holdings, where they worked as a Junior Software Engineer for a year. Dewald then moved on to become a Software Engineer for three years. From 2011 to 2015, they were a Senior Software Engineer, and from 2015 to 2017, they served as a Senior Software Engineer again.

In 2016, Dewald joined Ecocentric Energy as the Lead Firmware Test Engineer, a role they held until 2018. During their time at Ecocentric Energy, they also took on the position of Manager of Hardware and Operations from 2018 onwards.

Dewald Pretorius obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria. Dewald attended this institution from 2003 to 2006.
