Simarpreet Kaur Bhurji is a Bioinformatician at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) since September 2022, working with the Ensembl comparative genomics team on computational biology, software development, and automation processes for genome comparison and evolutionary analysis. Prior experience includes an internship at the University of Wollongong focusing on nanopore sequencing of cancer samples and research at the John Curtin School of Medical Research where Simarpreet developed “knowMT,” a software for detecting nuclear mitochondrial insertions. Earlier roles involved an internship at ArrayGen Technologies in advanced bioinformatics and leadership positions in Rotaract. Simarpreet holds a Master of Science in Quantitative Biology and Bioinformatics and a Graduate degree in Biotechnology from The Australian National University, alongside Bachelor's degrees in Zoology and Microbiology.
