Position Summary:

Eagle Eye Logistics is seeking an experienced SafetyManager to oversee and maintain safety and regulatory compliance for our fleet of 65 over-the-road trucks. This hands-on leadership role will focus on ensuring adherence to all federal, state, and company safety policies, DOT regulations, and OSHA standards. The successful candidate will ensure safety measures are executed efficiently across the division and lead the implementation of safety programs that minimize risk, promote safety culture, and align with regulatory standards.

Required Skills / Competencies:

Knowledge Areas:

  • Expertise in transportation safety and compliance (FMCSA, DOT, OSHA)
  • Extensive knowledge of safety regulations related to over-the-road truck operations, including Hours of Service (HOS), drug and alcohol testing, and driver qualifications
  • Experience with safety technology tools to monitor and analyze safety data, identify trends, and develop preventive measures
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations (EPA) as they apply to transportation operations
  • Strong understanding of safety management systems and protocols for vehicle maintenance
  • Ability to work independently and objectively while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey safety information and compliance procedures effectively
  • Ability to conduct safety training sessions and maintain records in accordance with regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for reporting and data analysis

Technical/Communication Skills:

  • Strong listening and comprehension skills for understanding safety and compliance directives
  • High level of reliability and trustworthiness
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English for reporting and safety documentation
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Team player, able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments (Operations, Maintenance, HR)

Experience:

  • Experience in transportation safety and/or compliance management, particularly with a fleet of over-the-road trucks is highly desired
  • Experience in OSHA, CDL compliance, and DOT regulations
  • Advanced training or certification in safety or compliance is preferred (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, DOT Compliance Specialist)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all drivers and operators are up-to-date with training and safety certifications per company and DOT requirements
  • Regular and consistent attendance
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and policies to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risks, and promote a culture of safety across the fleet
  • Monitor and manage compliance with all DOT regulations, including drug and alcohol testing, driver qualifications, vehicle inspections, and Hours of Service (HOS)
  • Lead the Drug and Alcohol Program in alignment with DOT and FTA regulations, including managing compliance records and testing protocols
  • Analyze safety data and trends to develop strategies aimed at reducing safety incidents, improving performance, and preventing accidents
  • Manage corporate safety incentives and programs, ensuring they are effectively communicated and consistently applied
  • Collaborate with fleet maintenance to ensure timely inspections and maintenance of all vehicles, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
  • Oversee safety audits conducted by both internal teams and external regulatory bodies (FMCSA, DOT, OSHA)
  • Work with HR and local medical facilities to manage worker injury claims, minimize downtime, and facilitate light-duty placements as necessary
  • Maintain all required records, including driver logs, accident reports, maintenance logs, and other compliance documentation
  • Ensure successful completion of safety-related audits, both internal and external
  • Lead safety training programs, both in the classroom and behind the wheel, to ensure all staff are aligned with corporate and client specifications

Expected Hours of Work:

  • This position typically requires approximately 40 hours per week onsite, with additional hours as needed to meet business needs and ensure safety and compliance standards are met

Work Environment:

  • Duties are primarily performed in an office setting but will also require regular visits to operational facilities, including maintenance shops and on-site safety assessments

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods
  • Exposure to shop temperatures (approximately 42°F)
  • Must be able to speak clearly and hear communications from other employees, either via phone or in person
