Sam Wellborn

Deputy General Counsel at Duke Energy

Sam Wellborn is a seasoned legal professional currently serving as Associate General Counsel at Duke Energy Corporation since October 2021. Prior experience includes working as an Associate at Robinson Gray from January 2018 to October 2021, focusing on administrative and regulatory matters as well as commercial litigation. Sam's experience also spans a role as Attorney-Advisor and Energy Industry Analyst at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission from 2013 to 2017, where responsibilities involved oversight of the PJM wholesale power market and drafting memos on Federal Power Act filings. Additional prior roles include law clerk positions and a military background as a Geospatial Intelligence Imagery Analyst in the United States Army Reserve. Sam holds a Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest University School of Law, a Master of Public Administration from the University of South Carolina, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of South Carolina. Active in the community, Sam chairs the Partnership Subcommittee of the SC Bar Diversity Committee. Admission is granted to the South Carolina Bar.
