Steve Colella currently serves as the Chief of Staff for Douglas County School District since February 2024. Prior to this role, Steve was the Executive Director of Schools at American Academy, overseeing academic operations for the largest charter school in Douglas County, Colorado. Earlier in Steve's career, positions included Deputy Executive Director of Schools at Douglas County School District and Chief Human Resources Officer & Acting General Counsel at Cherry Creek School District. Steve's extensive background in education and legal affairs encompasses roles as an attorney and law clerk in Southern California and as a teacher, coach, and administrator in Puerto Rico and Southern California. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania, a Doctor of Law (JD) from Whittier Law School, and a Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Stanford University.
