Deborah Becker, PhD, ACNP, BC, CHSE, FAAN is a Practice Professor of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing. She is the Director of the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Streamlined Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Adult Oncology Specialty Minor, Transformative Nursing Education Minor, and Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine and Cardiology Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Post Graduate Certificate programs. Dr. Becker has worked in critical care for over 35 years and for the past 27 years has taught in the academic setting, employing numerous innovative teaching strategies including high fidelity simulations. Dr. Becker is part of an inter professional and intercollegiate team of faculty from the University of Pennsylvania and University of the Sciences, both in Philadelphia, that offer disaster simulations that engage students in emergency preparedness and response situations including infectious disease outbreaks.
Dr. Becker consults nationally and internationally on a variety of nursing curriculum design and implementation projects and inter professional educational development initiatives. Most of Dr. Becker’s international efforts focus on advancing the role of nurses in areas where nursing leadership wants to improve the level of care provided to the acutely and critically ill, at both the generalist and advanced practice nurse levels.
