Giles Knap is a Beamline Software Engineer specializing in Technical Controls at Diamond Light Source Ltd. since November 2011. Prior to this role, Knap contributed to the development of an e-Learning course at the University of Reading and served as a Community Liaison for the Historypin project at Reading Museum, both in 2011. Knap's extensive experience in software development includes a lengthy tenure at Microsoft from 1991 to 2007 as a Developer Lead and Senior Consultant, where significant projects like the Government Gateway were developed. Further experience includes roles as a Software Engineer at Hewlett Packard Ltd., a Software Support Engineer at Micro Computer Systems Ltd., and a Research Assistant at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research. Knap holds an MSc in Computational Science from the University of Reading and a BSc in Computer Science with Microelectronics from Queen Mary’s College, London University.
