Dr. Doug Fearing, founder of the Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Research and Development department, and a former Senior Advisor to the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Research and Development department, is joining Diamond Kinetics in a Technology & Innovation advisory role.
In 2015, Dr. Fearing founded the Dodgers R&D department, serving as its Director through four seasons.
During his time with the club, he oversaw and grew the R&D team to twenty people, integrating data science, software engineering, and performance technologies into all functions of Dodgers Baseball Operations, culminating in back-to-back World Series appearances for the organization in 2017 and 2018.
Prior to joining the Dodgers, Dr. Fearing spent five years as a tenure-track faculty member, teaching undergraduate, masters, and doctoral courses at the Harvard Business School (2010 – 2013) and then at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business (2013 – 2015).
While pursuing his faculty career, he also provided technical guidance for the Tampa Bay Rays analytics team as a Senior Advisor to its Baseball Research and Development department.
In 2013, his work on baseball roster flexibility was recognized by the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference with the top research paper award.
Dr. Fearing received his Ph.D. in Operations Research from MIT and his B.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.
