Martin Sher currently serves as the Vice President and Chief Artistic and Operating Officer at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra since January 2025. Sher has a diverse background in the arts, holding consulting positions at The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and the North Carolina Symphony. Previously, Sher was the Senior Vice President for Artistic Planning and Programs at the New World Symphony and has held key roles at the North Carolina Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and the League of American Orchestras. In addition to an extensive career in orchestral management, Sher is a cofounder of CultureBase Interactive LLC. Educational credentials include a Master’s degree in Music Performance from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from The Johns Hopkins University, along with training at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
