Hugo Barra is the current CEO of Detect. Prior to this, they were the VP of VR at Meta from April 2017 to May 2021. Before that, they were the VP Global at Xiaomi from September 2013 to January 2017.
Barra began their career at Google, where they worked from March 2008 to September 2013 as the VP of Android Product Management. Hugo then moved to Nuance Communications, where they worked from March 2003 to February 2008 as the Director of Product Management for Mobile.
LOBBY7 Inc. was Barra's first job, which they held from September 1999 to March 2003 as the Co-founder and VP of Business Development. Hugo then worked as a Summer Analyst at McKinsey & Company from May 1999 to September 1999. Lastly, they were the Senior Class President at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from May 1999 to June 2000.
Hugo Barra has a M.Eng. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Hugo also has a B.S. from MIT in the same field, as well as a B.S. in Management Science (Operations Research) and Electrical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil. Hugo attended Colégio Pitágoras for primary, secondary, and high school in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as well as kindergarten at Parque Infantil da Pampulha.
