Sharon Buccino serves as the Principal Deputy Director at the Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement within the U.S. Department of the Interior since January 2024. Previously, Sharon was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Wyoming College of Law, where practical legal training was provided to students on local government and public land management issues. Sharon's extensive experience includes roles as Director/Senior Attorney for the Land & Wildlife program at the Natural Resources Defense Council, where a focus on integrating public land management with climate solutions was established. Sharon also contributed as Legislative Counsel, fostering relationships with Congressional staff to influence legislation. Additional teaching roles occurred at Georgetown University Law Center and workshops were conducted for environmental professionals through THE PARTNERSHIP PROJECT. Sharon's legal career began with a Judicial Law Clerk position at the Alaska Supreme Court and has included private practice at Powell Goldstein LLP. Educational qualifications include a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor's Degree from Yale University.
