Staff Consultant at Demonstratives

Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) A. Burns is a Staff Consultant with ESi in the Aurora, Illinois office. She is experienced in the areas of metallurgy and materials processing and is proficient in the application of several materials characterization techniques, including metallography, optical microscopy, advanced electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. She is also well versed in aerospace structural alloys, heat treatment processes, materials joining technologies, and mechanical testing methods.

Prior to joining ESi, Dr. Burns was employed by The Boeing Company where she contributed to research and development projects pertaining to additive manufacturing, residual stress management, friction stir welding, and cold spray repairs. She completed her Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology while working part-time for The Boeing Company and supporting an industry consortium effort managed by the Air Force Research Laboratory. Her dissertation focused on development of a micro-scale technique for measuring residual stress around fastener holes in metallic components to better understand effects of hole processing on fatigue performance.
