Dirk van der Merwe is a seasoned engineer with extensive experience in control systems and robotic technologies. Currently serving as the Lead Autonomous Robot System Architect at DEKA Research & Development since January 2002, Dirk has played a pivotal role in defining and implementing complex autonomous systems. Previous positions include Lead Control System Engineer for multiple medical devices, where responsibilities encompassed system architecture, hazard analysis, and compliance with IEC 60601 standards, as well as leadership roles in significant projects such as the DARPA Prosthetic Arm Project and the development of home hemodialysis devices. Dirk's career also includes engineering positions focused on integration and launch operations for satellite systems. Dirk holds Bachelor's degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from Stellenbosch University.
