Chris Finlay

Head of Research at Deep Render

Chris Finlay has a long and varied work experience. In 2009, they were an Undergraduate Student Researcher at the University of Alberta. In 2010, they worked as a Guitar Instructor at Visionary College. In 2012, they worked as a Guitar Instructor at Long & McQuade Musical Instruments, a Junior Patent Analyst at Lambert Intellectual Property Law, and a Data Analyst at Natural Resources Canada. From 2014 to 2019, they were a Researcher Phd Candidate and Teaching Assistant at McGill University's Faculty of Science. Finally, in 2020, they became the Head of Research at Deep Render, where they manage a large team of research scientists and research engineers and develops cutting-edge algorithms in AI-based video compression, with a key focus on real-time performance and efficiency. During their postdoctoral research at McGill University, they focused on machine learning research at the interface of computer vision, applied mathematics and probabilistic modeling, and published several articles at top-tier conferences.

Chris Finlay completed their education history with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Mathematics from McGill University, which they obtained in 2019. Prior to that, they earned an Honors Bachelor of Science (BSC) in Mathematics from the University of Alberta in 2011. Before that, they obtained a Diploma in Music Performance, Jazz Guitar from MacEwan University in 2007.
