Jill Cowley has held various academic leadership roles at De Montfort University since September 2007, currently serving as Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. Jill’s responsibilities include supporting the professional development of academic staff, teaching enhancement, and leading programmes in performing arts and dance. Previous positions also include interim roles and heads in humanities and performing arts, alongside a tenure as Programme Area Leader at Mid Kent College from 2001 to 2006. As a core member of the Quick Shifts Improvisation Collective from 2011 to 2019, Jill engaged in performance improvisation funded by Arts Council England. Educational qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Dance Studies and Public Health from Lancaster University, a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University, and a degree in Performing Arts from St. Martin's College.
