Jonathan Garcez, Ph.D., began their work experience in 2012 as a Reservoir Engineering Intern at Petrobras. In this role, they worked from July 2012 to July 2013. Following this, they joined Penn State University in 2018, where they held various positions. Jonathan worked as a Teaching Assistant from January to December 2018. From January 2018 to July 2022, they served as a Doctoral Researcher, conducting research on rate and pressure transient analysis of multi-fractured horizontal wells in unconventional gas reservoirs. Jonathan was also involved in project conceptualization and execution. Additionally, they served as a Doctoral Researcher from January 2020 to August 2022, working on a commercial-scale carbon storage project funded by the US Department of Energy. This project aimed to develop machine learning models for carbon storage as part of the SMART Initiative, which involved multiple American universities and National Laboratories. Upon completion of their doctoral research, they took on the role of an Associate Research Fellow at Penn State University starting in August 2022. Most recently, in January 2023, Jonathan joined Darcy Partners as an Oil and Gas Research Analyst, where they currently work.
Jonathan Garcez, Ph.D. has a strong educational background with degrees in multiple engineering fields. Jonathan began their academic journey in 2009 at Universidade Santa CecÃlia, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering. Jonathan successfully completed their undergraduate studies in 2013.
Following their bachelor's degree, Jonathan enrolled at Universidade Estadual de Campinas, where they pursued a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jonathan dedicated himself to this program from 2014 to 2017, gaining valuable expertise in the field.
In 2016, Jonathan obtained a certification in the Test of English as a Foreign Language from ETS, showcasing their proficiency in English communication.
In pursuit of further knowledge and academic growth, Jonathan then joined Penn State University in 2018. Here, they embarked on a rigorous program in Energy and Mineral Engineering, with a focus on their passion for the field. This led to him receiving a prestigious Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Energy and Mineral Engineering in 2022.
