Shakar Arbab has extensive experience in humanitarian management, currently serving as Head of Mission for the Danish Red Cross in Afghanistan since January 2022. Prior to this role, Shakar held similar positions including Head of Mission for the Norwegian Red Cross in Iraq and Deputy Country Representative for the Terre des hommes foundation in Iraq. Other notable roles include Humanitarian Coordinator for ADRA Denmark in Sudan/South Sudan, Programme Coordinator for the Danish Red Cross in Pakistan/Afghanistan, and Senior Programme Officer for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation focusing on Pakistan/Afghanistan. Shakar began working in the sector as a Programme Manager with Save the Children UK, following positions with Oxfam International, Catholic Relief Services, and the World Health Organization in various capacities. Shakar holds a Master of Science in Development Studies and Globalization from the University of London and a certificate in Development and Social Policy from Birkbeck, University of London.
