Jean-Marc Merriaux is the Directeur général of the Mission laïque française and a senior civil servant. Merriaux received a DEA (Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies, a Doctoral course work with a thesis) in Economics of Industry and Services from the University of Paris Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1995. He started his career in 1996 as an administrator at the television channel, France 5. He rapidly progressed within the TV station and successively became program adviser (1997-2001), and Secretary-General of the TV programs (2001-2004). He then became Deputy Director of the TV stations and programs (2004-2005), broadcasting and development (2005-2007), and of content strategy and new media (2007-2008). He was promoted as Head of the Education Department of France Télévision in 2008.
