Franz Payer began their career in 2011 as a Software Development Intern at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Franz then moved to Tactical Network Solutions, where they worked as a CNO Software Developer, developing software for search-and-rescue operations via mesh wireless networking, developing a prototype software for an embedded device exploitation framework, and designing and implementing a distributed and fully scalable platform for conducting port scans. In 2013, they joined the University of Maryland as a Network Penetration Tester, conducting various nmap scans on the school's internet network and working with a graduate student researching artificial intelligence in network intrusion detection. Finally, in 2014, they became the CEO of Cyber Skyline.
Franz Payer obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland between 2013 and 2017.
