Joao then took on the role of Chairman of the Board at Critical Software, where they played a key role in providing systems and software services for critical applications in multiple industries. In 2018, they joined Critical TechWorks as a member of the Board of Directors. Additionally, Joao Carreira has held positions in other companies such as GoParity - Impact Investing, Critical Ventures Inc, GuestCentric Systems, Critical Links Inc, Critical Holding S.A., Retmarker S.A., Critical Materials, and onCaring, where they served in various advisory and directorial capacities. Throughout their career, Joao Carreira has demonstrated their expertise and leadership in the technology and business sectors.
Joao Carreira completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the Universidade de Coimbra, where they studied from 1986 to 1991. In 1996, they pursued a PhD in Computer Science from the same university, which they completed in 1999. In the same period, from 1996 to 1999, they also pursued an MBA/MSSTC in Technology Commercialization from The University of Texas at Austin. In 1997, Joao Carreira spent a year as a Visiting PhD Student at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam), where they continued their studies in Computer Science. Similarly, they were a Visiting PhD student at the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Center at The University of Edinburgh in the year 1996. Prior to their higher education, Joao Carreira attended Escola Secundária Gabriel Pereira in Évora for their secondary education from 1980 to 1985.
